ColumnsUI config for foobar2000 v1.0+ (v1.5 tested with foobar2000 v1.1.7)

Versions History:
v1.0 : Released on 2010-05-02
v1.1 : Released on 2010-05-16
v1.2 : Released on 2010-05-19
v1.3 : Released on 2010-05-27
v1.4 : Released on 2010-07-28
v1.5.0 : Released on 2011-08-26
v1.5.1 : Released on 2011-08-29

What's new in v1.5.1 ? Just Check the change log file stored in ...skins/tech/ folder

BEFORE INSTALLING, check requirements below

*Cleaning previous Tech Installation
  • If you want to update an existing TECH config, you MUST delete the previous .../skins/tech folder before extracting the new .zip file, otherwize, it could generate some WSH crash later!

*Required Fonts
*Required dependencies
  • foo_wave_seekbar component requires
    • Ms Visual C++ 2010 SP1 32 bits version even on x64 systems > [link]
    • and for Direct3D rendering of the wave seekbar, DirectX Runtimes 9 (not installed on Seven by default) > [link]

*Installation Notes
  1. Install foobar2000 if not already done (Normal or Portable installation, as you prefer), then :

    • If Normal install done, extract the .zip file into your foobar2000 user profile folder, on Seven it's C:\Users\<your_username>\AppData\Roaming\foobar2000\

    • If Portable install done, extract the .zip file into your foobar2000 program folder, for example C:\My Programs\foobar2000\

  2. Run foobar2000

  3. When prompted, select as default interface "ColumnsUI" then OK

  4. Now Tech layout is visible, first your have to configure your media library : use the main menu entry "Library>Configure"

  5. You have to setup Shpeck component: "File>Preference>Visualizations>Shpeck" then Change Winamp Directory with your foobar2000 installation folder, it contains a fake winamp.exe. After that an available plugin will appear in the list, configure if you need, click Start/Stop button to active the panel

  6. Installation is now over, you may have to set some other useful features, like "Cursor follows Playback" (menu "Playback") ...

It's that easy :D

*Tips:
- Right click on the ELPlaylist > Group/Sort by ... will give you 4 presets :)
- Try the right click on all items ... there are some useful context menu there ...
- For a smoother scrolling in playlist, disable Pseudo Transparency in ELPlaylist settings (recommended for slow computer or netbooks or simply is playlist is so huge!)

Man, I love your Skin! Great Job!

For I am a foobar2000 newbie I have one question:
Can I do song-rating in ID3 not only in %rate%, but also in %rate WMP% and %rate MM%?

As I said: I do not (at the moment) understand a lot abut this great program and this great skin

Sorry, took a little longer than I thought.

I compared fb2k 1.03 with Tech 1.3b (to which I have added a few other components I like as well - lyrics grabber and soft playlists) against a fresh fb2k install with those same additional components added in. Dropouts were similar between the two - no idea why I have so much more of this with fb2k 1.03 but it is not your Tech 1.3b config. I ran latency checks thinking I might have a driver issue, and used process manager to get a handle on buffer overflow events. This led to me identifying a LAN utility that seemed to be misbehaving. Since uninstalling that things are much better. Although I have had to bump up my buffer size to 700 to use Kernel Streaming output (I used to have it at 250) I am quite satisfied and really do love this config.

Another issue I've had running in parallel is that I wanted to use your Chronoflow and Album browser components but my audio server was running on mobo integrated graphics and could not generate a hardware accelerated pixel display. I just installed a Sapphire 4670 Radeon PCIe card and the necessary ATI drivers....checks show the card is installed correctly, running OpenGL 3 etc. Things like Youtube videos viewed through the audio server now display seamlessly whereas before it was jerky video. Unfortunately, in my Tech 1.3b skin when I add the chronoflow panel, I don't see anything....just black space, despite re-adding my music folder. Do I need to reinstall your skin or something to have the coverflow component pick up on my new graphics card? My album covers along the bottom of the album browser component also just show up as the standard music note icon as well (despite all being named folder.jpg)....album covers elsewhere in the interface (i.e. as cover art, or as part of the library view etc) all show up normally. So it is just my coverflow component and album browser components that do not seem to be displaying correctly.

Thanks,

Dave M

Br3tt....fantastic skin. I've been using a .pui based config from Cepi Perez from 2008 (his Dark config) which has been great but kept me stuck at foobar 0.9.5.2.

I've been looking for similar, clean and minimalist design and your skin here is wonderful.

I do have two questions. I've config'd the Image save path to two separate directories (one for covers, one for artists) in my main music folder. Now I've got a bunch of images saved from Last.fm but how do I get them showing somewhere? I would have thought the Autocycle Image option on the Biography panel would do that but it doesn't. Thanks to let me know what I need to change.

Second question is the biography text itself is sometimes longer than the height of the panel and I can't scroll or arrow down to see the rest of the text. Anything I'm missing?

All in all, fantastic to see someone who is so talented at modding the look and feel of my favourite program.

Un grand chapeau et merci mille fois,

Dave Meddings

I have to say that I love your config. It dont use this all flashy' things' as yours older configs, its simpler but awesome XD, I used dawxxx's Sapphire for a very long time, but Tech satisfies almost all my needs in music player at present:D I love the way how the player is organized. Keep up good job.
